It is always such an adventure when I am photographing an extended family. Personalities, jokes, laughter…it’s all enhanced when there’s a big group of people connected through kinship. I showed up at the beach to capture this family, and with the exception of some traditional posing, I basically showed up to snap pictures of them hanging out at the beach together as one big family. SO FUN!

I got the awesome opportunity to preview Kait Emerson Designs’ new spring 2014 line, and oh.my.word. it is all adorable beyond words! Owner and designer Feanna has an impeccable taste in choosing fabrics, coordinating colors and patterns, and she outdid herself for this spring collection. I photographed my twin girls in two of her new bubble rompers she has available in her shop.

1. You guys. I can’t wait to share the full blog post with you tomorrow, but I’m OBSESSED with the bubble rompers I photographed this week for Kait Emerson Design’s Spring 2014 collection launch. They’re so stinkin’ cute! She has a coupon code she posted on her Facebook site for 25% off your order with “springfling.”

Sp 14 Romper 2 (32) web watermarked2. Super random, but this is my Thursday’s Three, so just stick with me ;) : last weekend the hubby and my oh-so-awesome-and-can-do-anything grandpa put in the baseboard moulding we wanted to replace after refinishing our original hardwood floors. They look phenomenal, and now the poor hubs is prepping it for paint by puttying the many, many, many nail gun holes. Have fun with that, hun!

baseboards3. Mommy tip: you must investigate the Yo Gabba Gabba Pandora radio station. We frequently bust out in dance parties at our house. And in the car. And anywhere, really. Even if you’re not a Yo Gabs fan, I guarantee this Pandora mix will get you and your kids movin’ and groovin’ with some major smiles on their faces. (Side note: have you SEEN Yo Gabba Gabba live?! I was impressed! Not only does DJ Lance host the concert singing and dancing live, but Biz Markie made an appearance, yo! When I took Jake with some friends at the LA concert, Biz pulled some kids up on stage for Biz’s beats, and Gwen Stefani’s son Zuma was up on stage with him. So rad.)

I’ve been meaning to feature this adorable family’s session on the blog for a while now. These two spunky girls are at SUCH a fun age! Four is a magic number: still super young and innocent, but like a little sponge absorbing all kinds of knowledge and hilarious sense of humor! Loved every minute of this active session.

1. It’s supposed to rain all weekend, and I’m doing a little happy dance about it. Boy oh boy do I hope that’s correct because we need it here in SoCal! I’ll most likely be singing a different tune come Monday when I can’t just let the kids out to play in the backyard at all hours of the day…although, that is what their adorable rainboots are for. No matter what, the rain is much needed, and all of my fave session locations could desperately use some rain to liven things up a bit. ;)

2. I’m a sucker for a good impersonation. I’m a horrible impersonator, but love to do it anyway. What I love more is when other people nail one. I stumbled upon this YouTube video of Christina Bianca’s cover of “Let it Go” from Disney’s Frozen and oh.my.word. she is SPOT ON with the impersonations. You gotta watch it and tell me what you think of her Celine Dion. The best. [How did I “stumble upon” this YouTube video, you ask? Well Jake’s best twin friends are absolutely obsessed with this song and performed it for him while their mommy played it from the soundtrack on her phone. Ever since then he requests to watch the “video with singing and snow” on the daily—there are some GEM of covers on YouTube if you browse through the sidebar)

3. So important: sign up for the HJP newsletter! I’ll deliver all kinds of fun content to your inbox through the newsletter, and it’s the sure way to keep up to date on all things HJP: mini sessions, special offers, announcements, promotions, and giveaways! Go to the HJP Facebook page, and sign up by clicking the “Get the Newsletter!” tab.

Happy *almost* Friday, friends!

Hi there, peeps! Spring mini sessions are on my mind (still ironing out details, so be on the lookout for blog posts/Facebook posts/newsletter blast in the next week or two), and as I imagine my perfect location, lighting, etc, my mind starts wandering to fashion. “Now what will my kids wear?!” I’m a mama just like you guys! Sometimes I’ve got oodles of time to put together outfits, sometimes I’m on a time crunch. Sometimes I’m inspired by something I see (ahem, nautical goodness at Old Navy I featured on Thursday’s Three the other week and it’s now turning into a mini photo shoot for my kids–HA!), sometimes it’s items in my kids’ closets that I want to use in different ways with the new hat I got Jake. Either way, this mama has been on the lookout for what’s hot for spring in kid fashion. Over the next few weeks, I’ll try to showcase some ideas/outfits/trends I’m loving to get your wheels turning for upcoming photo sessions you’ll be booking with HJP. :)

Today I pulled together three looks: one for a young girl ages 5 to 12, a look a stylin’ boy can wear at any age, and a look for a baby/toddler girl. I’ve created these makeshift style boards in the past for my family’s photo sessions, so I figured why not make a few and share with all my lovely HJP readers?! Tell me what you think. ;)

This was a ton of fun! Any of these looks would look great at all of the locations I have in mind for the Spring mini sessions. ;) Thanks for reading, friends!

I wish I could just bottle up that new baby smell that is SO perfect in all its sweetness and preciousness. I’m so lucky I get to occasionally love on some newborns (and perhaps sniff them ;) ) in my job. This needs to happen more often.  The newborn sessions, not the sniffing.

Looking at these images of sweet baby J reminds me how wittle itty bitty they are that first week of life, and how quickly they change! It keeps getting better and better, of course, but thank goodness for still shots of evidence of the tiny forehead burrows and puffy lips, tiny toes and deep deep slumbers. <3
